A Testimony to the Place of Israel Identity in the Plan of God

by Rev. Kenneth Kent

There was a time in my life when I was very much opposed to the British Israel theory, for three main reasons:

1. I imagined, as so many do, that the Jews were the sole representatives of the Israel people, and thought it incredible that the Celto-Saxon nations could ever be looked upon as being "Jews."

2. I imagined that it was a "Master Race" (Herrenvolk) theory, and with the example of Nazi Germany's activities under Adolf Hitler still fairly fresh in our memories, I wondered how on earth any Christian worthy of the name could embrace such an idea, "Christianize" it, as it were, and propagate it as Biblical teaching, when the Gospel is that "in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, barbarian, Scythian, bond or free."

3. I imagined that it was dishonoring to Christ to teach a theory so concerned with racial benefit and national privilege, and therefore for a very long time refused to give any attention to the theory whatsoever.

Now, however, I know that British Israel teaches none of the above viewpoints, which are thoroughly and completely false ideas entertained and propagated by those who have but a superficial knowledge of British Israel, or no knowledge about it whatever.

Regarding the first misconception stated above: British Israel does not teach that we are Jews at all, but that we are the descendants of the House of Joseph, the Northern Ten Tribes, and the Jews are descendants of the House of Judah only.

The kingdom was divided into Israel and Judah after the death of King Solomon and eventually the Northern Kingdom of Israel was cast off and became "Gentilized." The prophet Hosea tells us that. This was to fulfill the prophecy that Abraham's seed should become the "fullness of the Gentiles" (Gen. 48:19; Rom. 11:25). Since then we are not "Jews" of Judah, but "Israelites" of the Northern Kingdom, and since also the original Hebrews were a fair-haired, Nordic people — this objection breaks down.

In answer to the second objection that British Israel teaches a "Master Race" theory, I discovered this to be quite untrue. We teach according to Isaiah 40-66 that Israel is God's "Servant People", destined to bring the blessings of the Gospel to all mankind; to be a blessing to all the nations of the earth; and to help bring about the goal of history, when the "kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord" and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the objective of British Israel, and the fact that God has used the English-speaking peoples to do this in no way detracts from the great and glorious truth that "in Christ all are one" (Gal. 3:28).

Finally, regarding the third objection that British Israel teaching is dishonoring to Christ — such an assertion I discover to be very far from the truth indeed. British Israel Truth is Christ-centered, and as well as emphasizing the fact that HE is the Redeemer of Israel and the Savior of the whole world. I find that this teaching gives our Lord His full glory as THE KING. It teaches that there is a "Divine Constitution" in God's Word, that the King of kings is to return, and that He will put this Constitution into effect — obedience to which will bring untold blessings to all mankind.

British Israel Truth is a vital part of the "Whole Council of God," whilst it still remains fundamentally true that "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the KINGDOM OF GOD (John 3:3). We long for Revival and National Regeneration. British Israel will give this nation a sense of mission and responsibility and this will be "life from the dead" for the world (Rom. 11:15).
